Here’s my list of amazing things happening in Calgary this month. Between wedding season kicking off to some truly great causes to get involved in, January has turned into a wonderful month despite the cold weather! Also, please spread the good word of I HEART YYC to your friends.

➔ I HEART YYC

♥ The Wedding Fair: Southern Alberta’s biggest, brightest, most inspirational wedding show. Meet over 250 local wedding professionals, over $75,000 in prizes and the biggest Bridal Fashion Show in Calgary. January 17th from 9:30am-5pm at BMO Centre

Painting Workshop at The Crafted Truck: Learn to paint your furniture and get on the fast train to DIY land with Crafted! This furniture-painting workshop is taught by Emma Madsen of Mug’s Emporium, who will provide all supplies, including a practice project, brushes, and FAT paint, the eco-friendly, low-VOC, Canadian-made chalk style paint. January 19 from 6-9pm at Loft 112

The Bash YYC: Calling all cute brides in Calgary. You will not want to miss this awesome, curated, beautiful, stunning and customized wedding show that is perfect for anyone who wants that personal touch on their wedding. I wrote all about it for Avenue magazine so go check out my scoop here! January 23 + 24 @ Festival Hall 1215 10th Ave SE

BIG Winter Classic: If you’ve been living in Calgary for more than a year, you know how rough this time of year can be. It seems as though before Christmas it is so lovely and warm with constant Chinooks and hardly any snow. Then January hits and it is like we’ve been slapped in the face with a frozen fish. Ouch. Anyways, the folks behind the BIG Winter Classic are aiming at bringing a little much needed warmth and rock’n’roll to your cold winter heart. Live Art, music and local craft beer all collide at BIG Winter Classic for a three-day winter wonderland.
January 28 - 31 @ Broken City and Last Best Brewing & Distilling

YYC Hot Chocolate Festival: Throughout the month of February, participating cafes and restaurants will feature signature hot chocolate drinks created especially for this friendly competition. Proceeds from each drink will benefit Calgary Meals on Wheels, and customer online votes will decide which vendor will win the coveted title of Calgary’s “Best Hot Chocolate.” The Launch Party is on January 30th from 11am-12pm at the Calgary Farmer’s Market.

Knit-A-Thon! The amazing Little Hippies Foundation is a Calgary-based organization that provides free yoga programs to kids who are sick, recovering, have Special Needs or who come from low-income families. They do this by partnering with local organizations like The Alberta Children’s Hospital, Inn from the Cold and The Boys & Girls Club of Calgary. They have a goal of raising $10,000 by January 31st to further support these programs at their amazing knit-a-thon at Eau Claire Market! Remember that amazing episode of Gilmore Girls where they all participate in a Knit-A-Thon?! Dontcha all wanna get in on that kind of action and for such an amazing cause? All of the details are here!

So much more goodness to come in February - love month! Enjoy and #shoplocal!
